Pets
Life in the valleyCreatures of legend that hatch from charms and fight beside you.
Your first pet
Pets come from level 50. Each one is a creature from an old legend somewhere in the world, and each one is made, never bought or won by chance:
- Build a Hatching Stone at a workbench.
- Craft the pet's charm at the Hatching Stone. Each charm needs materials from its pet's own land, and the Hatching Stone has to stand in that land. The Snapping Turtle Hatchling, the Jackalope and the Clay Golem are made at home in the Riverlands, and the Baby Kraken's charm can be made anywhere. From level 70 a charm also needs a trophy from one of the big bosses.
- Use the charm. The pet hatches in your den 2 hours later, even while you are away from the game.
- Call it. Your first pet comes out by itself. After that, open the character menu (Tab), turn to PETS, pick a pet and press CALL.
You can own every pet, but each one only once. A charm is an ordinary item, so a second charm of a pet you already have can go to a friend.
The pets come from stories told all over the world: the Jackalope from the American West, the Clay Golem from Jewish folklore, the Qilin from China, the Phoenix from Egypt and Greece, and the Griffin from ancient Greek and Persian legend. A few, like the Snapping Turtle Hatchling, the Tapir Calf and the Sheepdog Pup, are simply real animals with a charm of their own. The names belong to everyone; how they look in the game is its own.
One pet at a time
One pet comes out with you. It follows you, flies or swims beside you, and helps only in fights you are already in: it goes for the creatures that attack you and the ones you hit, and it never starts a fight. Its hits count as yours, for XP and loot.
- The bond. Creatures never attack your pet. Instead it takes a share of every hit aimed at you: a tank takes 40%, the others 10%, and more while a tank's guard skill is up.
- Fainting. If its health runs out, it faints and rests for 1 min, then comes back. Out of a fight it heals by itself.
- Perks. Every pet also helps outside fights. The table at the bottom lists what each one does.
Growing up
Your pet gains XP when you cleanse a creature it helped with, and it can't pass your own level.
- Young at first: it knows its first skill.
- Grown at pet level 30: it learns its second skill.
- Ascended at pet level 60: its skills recharge 25% faster, and it grows bigger.
Its health and its hits are a share of yours, and the share grows a little with each of its levels.
The Monster's second pet
A Monster can call a second pet for 15 min at full strength (CALL AS SECOND on the Pets page). Then it goes home, and the second call recharges for 20 min. Sending it home early starts the recharge at once.
On screen
- Pet frames on the left of the screen show each pet that is out, under your party's frames: its health and level, and for a second pet the time it has left. Click a frame to open that pet's page.
- The Pets page shows every pet you know of. Ones you haven't made yet are shadowed, with the level their charm needs, or "Ready to craft" when you carry everything for it. Pick one to see its legend, both skills, its perk, its numbers in a fight and its charm's recipe.
- The Sun Guardian marks treasures within 60 m (sunken chests, fossil beds, amber, dragon eggshells, pearl beds and moonstone) and the landmarks you haven't found yet within 150 m on your minimap, inside a gold ring.
