Salvage: take old gear apart
More guidesTurn gear and weapons you don't need into some of the materials they were made from.
Your satchel is full. You're deep in a cave, and a creature just dropped a sword you'll never use. Don't leave it behind: take it apart. A few seconds later that sword is iron and moonstone in your pack, ready for your next craft.
How it works
- Open your satchel (Tab) and pick a piece of gear or a weapon.
- Press SALVAGE in the item's details, next to DROP.
- The piece is gone for good, and some of the materials it was made from go into your satchel.
What comes back:
| Each material in its recipe | 40% of it, rounded down |
| The main material (the one the recipe uses most) | at least 1 |
| Gear with no recipe (dropped gear, named finds) | the common materials of the nearest piece of its kind you can craft, at or below its level |
| If your satchel is full | the materials drop at your feet, like loot |
The piece's own slot frees up when you salvage it, so there is often room already.
Rare, epic and legendary pieces ask first, and so does anything imbued with powers at the Glowstone Font. Salvaging can't be undone, and the powers go with the piece.
What can't be salvaged
- Gear you're wearing. Take it off first.
- Thrown weapons and ammo. They come in stacks.
- Keepsakes and quest items, anything that can't be traded.
- Store items. What you buy in the store is yours to keep, and it never turns into materials or coins.
Why so little?
Salvage gives back less than the piece took, on purpose. It keeps the world fair: nobody can make materials or coins out of thin air by crafting, salvaging and crafting again. The materials that come back are never worth more than the piece itself. That's why a crafted piece is always worth more worn, traded or sold than taken apart.
Most gear you find is for another class. First, try the market: someone out there may need that bow. Salvage the leftovers, the worn-out pieces and the ones below your level, and turn them into your next set on the gear ladder.
