| Looks like | Rolling woods in red, copper and gold. Red maples and copper beeches grow together in groves, tall golden aspens and white paper birches stand in their own stands and by the water, and great old oaks spread their branches over the deepest woods. Between the trees are open glades. Blackberry brambles grow thickest at the edges of the woods, with red dogwood shrubs, fern patches turning rust and gold, heaps of fallen leaves with an acorn or two in them, and brown mushrooms on mossy log ends. Grey boulders spotted with orange and green lichen sit in the glades, and hollow fallen logs lie on the forest floor. Pumpkins still grow on their vines in the clearings. Now and then, out in a glade, a tall granite tor stands split down the middle, a small red tree growing out of the crack: you can see it from far away. |
