What it is like

The valley where every gator starts. The village sits in its middle, safe from creatures, with the workshop, the market board, the Class Shrine and friends to talk to. The further you walk from the village, the stronger the Gloom gets, until you reach the coast and the open sea: see Continents and danger.

Watch out

• Near the village the Gloom is weak: Sludge Blobs and Thorn Burrs. Further out come brutes and golems.
• At night Gloom Bats come out, and every creature is a little stronger.
• Somewhere along the coast there is a lagoon where Goliath sleeps.
• The Rusty Crab Machine wanders mesas, beaches and meadows, rarely.

Tips

• Ore gets better with distance: copper first, then iron, then moonstone deep in the caves.
• Plant a Reed Bed in shallow water: reeds clean the river and the whole valley heals a little.
• Wild capybaras graze by the water. Hold carrots, corn or grain and press E three times to make a friend.
