Dragonfire Isle

Levels 115–130

A smoking island far out at sea. Dragons circle the Dragon Tower, and something with seven heads waits on top.

What it is like

Dragons circle the tower. Its gate opens only for those who carry the Sevenfold Seal, which Seraphine the Dragon-Keeper gives at the end of her tales. On top waits Aurendrake: see Bosses and The Dragon Tower.

WhereAn island about 0.9 km across, across the sea; its middle is about 4.6 km from the village. The furthest land from the village, with the Dragon Tower in its middle. Not far from the tower stands the dragon keepers' town of timber-and-stone halls, banners and a dragon perch, the last safe ground before the tower, whose trading post is kept by Bram the Badger (see Towns and townsfolk).
DangerCreature levels 115–130, climbing from the harbour side (the coast facing the village) to the far side. More at night, on glacier peaks and in volcano craters.
Looks likeScorched basalt round a volcano, with the Dragon Tower in the middle: 58 m of cut stone with a spiral ramp inside and an open arena on top. Between the ash fields grow groves of dragonscale pines, their red-brown trunks covered in overlapping scales, and crimson ironwoods with deep red crowns; sulphur palms with mustard-yellow fronds lean over the shore. Charred ferns push fresh green fronds up round old burnt stems, and firebloom bushes hold up golden-orange flowers shaped like flames. Geothermal vents breathe a gentle plume of steam through a yellow mineral crust, smooth dragon egg rocks lie in warm clusters, dark volcanic stones glow with red crystals in their cracks, and old dragon bones and eggshells lie half buried in the ash. Now and then a tall volcanic spire with glowing lava veins rises on the volcano's slopes: a landmark you can see from far away. Fell pines for logs, resin and pine cones, palms for logs and big leaves, and ironwood (a stone axe or better) for a big load of logs. Cut firebloom bushes for fibre and yellow and red petals, and charred ferns for fibre and a little coal. Break vents with a pickaxe for stone and gravel, egg rocks for stone and sandstone, and dark stones (a stone pickaxe or better) for stone, flint and now and then obsidian or an ember core.
WeatherAsh and embers on the wind.
MusicThe Ember Wastes' drums and horns.

Watch out

  • Every dragon here is strong. Come with friends and good gear.
  • The Gold Dragon never strays far from its hoard.
  • Twilight Wyrms rise only after sunset.

Tips

  • The tower's ramp climbs a full turn every 10 m. Windows light the way.
  • The volcanic spires can't be broken: they stand on the volcano's slopes as a landmark to find your way by.
  • The charred ferns are new life after the fire: fresh fronds grow right beside the burnt stems.
