"Apocalypse: how long can you last?"
More guidesA night that never ends, three times the creatures, one life. Bring your gator, set a score, and beat your friends.
The lanterns go out. Something rustles in the reeds, then something else, then a dozen more. It's night, and it will stay night. Your gator plants its feet. How long can you last?
Apocalypse is a quick, fierce game with one of your gators. Nothing from a run touches your gator's real life: no items lost, no coins, no levels. What you keep is your score, your badges and your title, and your place on the board next to your friends.
How a run works
- In the gator lobby, press APOCALYPSE.
- Pick one of your gators. It comes exactly as it is: level, class, skills, gear and satchel.
- Choose SOLO or WITH FRIENDS, and press START.
Then the night comes:
- It's always night. The sun never rises in a run.
- Creatures come 3 times as thick, and faster.
- The night grows deeper every 4 minutes: more creatures (up to 6 times as many), 2 levels tougher each time, and more elites. Every run ends sooner or later.
- Potions never run out. Drink as many as you like.
- No Calm Aura, and no safe ground: even the village won't keep creatures away.
- One life. Fall once, and your run is over.
- Run-only finds. Creatures drop gear, food and potions you can use during the run. It all stays in the run. No XP and no coins, so your level stays the same all night.
Your score
The end screen adds it up line by line. No secret bonuses:
| What you did | Points |
|---|---|
| Each creature calmed | 1 |
| Each elite | 5 |
| Each mini-boss | 25 |
| Every 10 seconds you last | 1 |
The world keeps count from what really happens, never from what a player says. A run where the rules were changed or host commands were used isn't posted.
The boards: you against your friends
Every week brings a new map and new boards, the same for everyone that week. There are three boards: score, longest night and most creatures calmed. There's an all-time board for each too.
Scores are compared fairly, level band by level band:
| Band | Levels |
|---|---|
| 1 | 1 to 49 |
| 2 | 50 to 99 |
| 3 | 100 to 149 |
| 4 | 150 and up |
Solo runs and runs with friends have their own boards, so they never mix. In a team, the highest level in the team picks the band. Friends can join a run through MULTIPLAYER in its first 90 seconds. After that, the run is locked.
You see your friends' gator names on the boards, and during a run the panel tells you who's next: "12 more points to pass Ana". Friends' scores need Steam. Without it, your own bests are kept on your computer.
Badges and titles
| Badge | How to earn it |
|---|---|
| First Light Kept | Survive 5 minutes |
| Night Owl's Hour | Survive 30 minutes |
| Until Dawn | Survive 60 minutes |
| A Hundred Calmed | Calm 100 creatures in one run |
| Elite Hunter | Calm 10 elites in one run |
| Shoulder to Shoulder | Survive 30 minutes in co-op |
| Unbroken | Calm 50 creatures in a row without being hit |
Your title grows with your longest night: Lantern Bearer at 10 minutes, Night Warden at 30, Dawn Seeker at 60, and Keeper of the Long Night at 120. You choose whether to show it on the Apocalypse screen.
Elites are worth 5 points, but a long life is worth more than one big fight. Keep moving, drink a potion before you need it (they never run out), and calm the small ones first so they can't wear you down. And the Unbroken badge only comes to a gator who doesn't get hit.
Where next
Pick your toughest gator, press APOCALYPSE in the lobby, and see how long the night lasts. Then bring a friend and try it together. Read about fighting well, how levels make you stronger and the other ways to play.
