Building your town
More guidesDecorate your own land with houses, market stalls, wagons and landmarks: the free starter set and the building packs.
Your own town
The towns you visit are full of houses, lamps, wells, wagons and market stalls. You can build with the very same pieces on your own land, and grow a town of your own: a farm by the river, a harbour with a lighthouse, a market square with a fountain.
Decor pieces go only on land you claimed with a Home Totem (or land a friend added you to). Place a totem first: you can have up to three, each claiming the land 12 m around it.
Placing decor
- Open the build palette (B) and pick the Decor tab.
- Pick a piece. A see-through blue copy of it follows where you point, with a glowing ring round the ground it needs. It turns red, with the reason, when it can't go there.
- Click to place it. X turns it an eighth of a turn.
- The right mouse button takes away one of your decor pieces (point at it). Esc puts the tool away.
With a controller, open the build palette from the Menu button, then place with the right trigger, take away with the left trigger, and turn with Y.
Placing decor costs nothing, and taking it away gives nothing back. Each player can have up to 400 decor pieces in a world. Other players see your town, but only you (and the land's owner) can take your pieces away.
Colours. Above the pieces you choose the colours. "Own" keeps each piece's usual look: town pieces in the town's warm colours, realm pieces in their realm's. With the Complete City bundle (or all three packs) any piece can wear any realm's colours: a lamp in Frostlands blue, a wagon in Sunscorch Desert sand.

Good to know
- Decoration only. Packs never help you fight, survive or earn: they're pieces to make your town look the way you like. That's why they can't be earned in play, and why the free set is there for everyone.
- Every kind of world takes them, Survival worlds included.
- Bought once, kept for good, on every world, for your account. They can't be traded, gifted or turned into orange coins.
- A grown-up turns purchases on. Purchases with real money are off on every profile until a grown-up turns them on with the PIN, and every purchase asks for the PIN again. On a child's profile the store can be hidden altogether: see Family safety. Until then, a locked piece shows which pack it's in, and "See the pack" just explains this.
- Prices are paid through Steam, in your own currency; the table shows the US prices. Refunds and help are always on the Purchases page.
- Not on sale yet. The store opens later; until then everyone builds with the free starter set.
- Towns and roads in the world use every piece for free. The packs are about building your own.
