The Travelling Pedlar
More guidesCall Pemberton the pedlar and his donkey Parsnip to wherever you are, and trade at town prices without the walk back.
A shop on the road
Your satchel is full, your health potions are gone, and the town is a long walk behind you. You press one key. A lantern bobs over the hill, and a kindly old badger comes walking up with a donkey full of goods. "There you are! Parsnip heard you call before I did."
That's Pemberton the Pedlar and his donkey Parsnip. They bring a shop to wherever you are, so you can sell what you gathered, stock up and keep exploring.
How it works
- Press U, or the PEDLAR button on the map screen (with a controller, open the map from the Menu button).
- Pemberton appears about 9 m away and walks up beside you. His shop opens by itself.
- Buy and sell, just like in a town shop. Other players nearby can trade with him too.
- When you're done, close the shop or walk on. He waves goodbye and heads off down the road.
| He leaves when | |
|---|---|
| You close his shop | after 6 s, in case you open it again |
| You walk away | 16 m or more from him |
| Nobody talks to him | 60 s after he arrives |
You can call him again 60 s after your last call.
What he buys and sells
- He sells health potions, mana potions, food for the road, torches, rope, arrows and sling stones.
- He buys everything a town shop buys: materials, food, fish, tools, gear, potions and more. Rare, epic and legendary finds still belong on the market board, as in town.
His prices are the town shops' prices, exactly: no cheaper, no dearer. Like any shopkeeper he sells a few of each thing a day and buys a limited amount from you each day. What he saves you is the walk, not coins.
When he can't come
- During a fight. Not while a creature is after you, or for 10 s after you were hurt.
- Near a boss (within 60 m) or inside the Dragon Tower.
- In a town, the village or Duck Mines. Their shops are right there.
- In Survival worlds. Nothing bought with real money helps you survive there.
- On water or steep ground. He needs dry, open ground beside you.
Call Pemberton when your satchel is nearly full, not when it's already full. Sell the extra materials, buy a mana potion and a health potion, and you're ready for the next cave.
Getting him
The Travelling Pedlar is sold in the store for US$19.99 (Steam shows the price in your own currency). It's a one-time purchase, kept for good, and it can't be traded. Real-money purchases are off until a grown-up turns them on with the PIN, and every purchase asks for the PIN. See Family safety features.
Without it, you trade in the same way at any town: the shops there buy and sell the same things at the same prices.
Where next
Out past the last town, a long way from home: that's where Pemberton is worth the most. Head for a realm you haven't mapped yet and see how far you can go without turning back.
- The market and trading: coins, the market board and the shops.
- Towns and townsfolk: the towns and their shopkeepers.
- Storage: satchel, chests, the locker and the vault: your satchel, chests and the Home Vault.
- Getting around, and animal friends: ways to travel far and fast.
